Tessera is a modular display typeface built as a practical tool for designers and brands to quickly elevate visual work. The family includes a wide range of letters, symbols, numbers, and glyphs that are designed to repeat into cohesive, flowing patterns. Every character sits on a shared grid, allowing forms to connect seamlessly and be easily interchanged to construct unique arrangements that feel intentional and unified.
The project originated from an early type exercise exploring the deconstruction of letterforms into repeatable tiles. In Tessera, each glyph begins with its typographic counterpart, then is duplicated, adjusted, and abstracted into a pattern-driven unit. Some characters retain recognizable structures, while others are more abstracted, creating a balance between legibility and ornament. The result is a flexible system where typography expands into pattern—capable of adding structure, texture, and rhythm.
