Uzzle Tales is an interactive book and puzzle series where stories quite literally come to life through hands-on play. Each title follows a unique theme that combines narrative clues with physical puzzle blocks that players must assemble to progress through the story. The first book, Treasures of Coral Cove, allows players to follow Tess, Opal, and Mortimer aboard The Salty Biscuit as they explore new islands, track hidden treasures, and navigate a series of 20 story-driven puzzles woven into the pirate adventure narrative.
The visual direction supports both storytelling and learning, blending warm, illustrated worlds with clear, functional puzzle design. Each installment in the series introduces a new core skill through play—in Coral Cove, the focus is on understanding and using cardinal directions. Visual cues, environments, and puzzle layouts are carefully crafted to reinforce these concepts without breaking immersion, allowing players to learn naturally as they advance through the adventure. For each puzzle block has fun and unque artwork referenced in the book to help keep kids, and even adults, engaged.
In Stories from Bricklewood Valley, players will puzzle out the adventure of Cora the raccoon, Oscar the frog, and Sawyer the bird as they explore the Farmlands, Forests, and Towns of Bricklewood Valley. Geared toward younger kids, the puzzles focus on imagery and color recognition. A children's book art style was choosen to help bring the hidden swimming ponds, buildings, and landmarks all to life in this adventure.
Here is a little bit of my process creating the designs for Uzzle Tales.
